About Hamilton County
Named for Alexander Hamilton, the county was first organized in 1823. Today, it’s a county with close ties to Indianapolis, where many of the major suburban towns and small cities are located. Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, and Westfield are its four largest municipalities. It boasts a relatively young population, with a median two years shy of the state median at 35 years of age. While it is not particularly populous, with around 7 million inhabitants, about five percent of Indiana’s total population calls it home.
Relatively well-educated, with low crime statistics and poverty levels to date, Hamilton County’s population is mostly white, and married, with or without children; by comparison Caucasian residents numbered nearly 267,000, whereas the next largest ethnic communities of African American and Asian American individuals numbered 12,000 and 17,000, respectively.
