September 2015
To create this ranking of the top 50 window installers and siding contractors in Central and North Jersey, we sought to develop an approach that would mimic on a large scale the research an individual homeowner might undertake when evaluating the considerable number of contractors in the region.
Featured Contractor
- Essex Home Improvements – Call Jack DeRosa at 973-202-3075
We sought to answer questions you’re probably already asking: Which contractors are reputable? Which can I trust to do a good job? Which may be capable of doing the job at a fair price? Which can I trust to follow up if there are problems with the job?
We reviewed information on more than 500 siding and window installers in NJ and compiled a large data set consisting of ranking and review information from the following sources.
- Home Advisor
- Angie’s List
- Google Reviews
- Yelp Reviews
- Better Business Bureau
The higher the ranking on these sites, and the more sites where the company appears with favorable rating, the higher we’ve placed them in our rankings. We created an algorithm that assigned each company points based on these factors. As such, we see this as a kind of super-ranking, in that it considers the key information from all of the important ranking sources. In the event of a tie, we gave priority to companies who’ve been in business longer, as they may have a more durable track record and a longer list of happy customers than others.
As a guideline, customers in this region can expect prices like those listed below. You should question prices falling outside these ranges.
- Wood window: $800-1200 per window
- Vinyl replacement window: $500-650 per window
- Pocket replacement window: $550
Please note that in your own search, you may encounter companies that will hit you with a high-pressure sales pitch. There are many such companies. They will say things like “all decision makers must be present” when they visit your home, or “this quote is only valid today.” Our recommendation is to hear them out, get their best price, and then compare it to all the other quotes you’re receiving. Make sure the comparison is apples-to-apples, and don’t feel pressured into rushing the decision. Some of these companies may be strong performers when it comes to completing the job, but we don’t feel this is a pleasant or customer-focused way of doing business.
We also feel compelled to warn you that there are NJ siding and window installation companies that will offer to provide consolidated financing, where they roll other credit payments into a single payment covering those credit lines and the new work being proposed. Realize that you may end up paying substantially higher interest rates for this convenience.
Some customers may be comfortable working with multi-state or national companies that have some type of presence in the area; others are more inclined to work with contractors who have local roots. We’ve split this list accordingly, showing companies with local roots first.
